Local group preps for fireworks show

— Local ministerial alliances are teaming up to honor veterans for a special labor day weekend event.

The Camden Ministerial Alliance and the Ouachita County Ministerial Alliance will hold its “Lite Up the Nite Fireworks Show” with gates opening at 6 p.m. on Sept. 6 at the Camden Municipal Airport. The event kicks off at 7 p.m., with fireworks starting at around 8:30.

The public is invited to enjoy fireworks, free inflatables, a rock-climbing wall, sky divers and a visit from the Pafford Medical Helicopter.

The event is one of several planned for September to honor veterans.

In August, Ouachita County Judge Robbie McAdoo proclaimed September as Veterans Awareness and Appreciation month. The event will honor members of the military - both past and present. McAdoo will be reading the proclamation at the event.

The annual Star Spangled Spectacular that is held on July 4 was cancelled this year due to heavy rain, so the ministerial groups decided to hold a fireworks event in September in place of the July celebration.

In addition to the fireworks and activities, special entertainment will be provided by Arkansas’s own America’s Got Talent competitors, Triple Threat.

The group - which consists of singers Caleb Conrad, Tyler Davis and Will Richey - performed live on America's Got Talent from Radio City Music Hall in New York. Triple Threat advanced through the first two rounds of the talent competition before being eliminated.

The trio earned high praise throughout the first two rounds of the talent show. Their first performance, a cover of MKTO’s song “Classic,” won the judges over and has more than 3.4 million views on YouTube. They followed that in the next round with a version of Ariana Grande’s “Problem.”

The group’s run on America’s Got Talent spurred support from all over the state, including from Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who posted a video online hours before the last performance imploring Arkansans to vote for them. Local talent will perform before the trio takes the stage.

Non-profit organizations will be in charge of concessions. Organizers are reminding the public to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for the event.
