Museum gets new roof

— Museum gets new roof

Employees of C. Cougill Roofing Co., Inc. work to replace a wooden shake roof on the McCollum Chidester House Museum to keep it true to its historic 1847 look. A grant of more than $26,000 was received by the Arkansas Historic Preservation program for the roof, while Ouachita County Historical Society fundraisers and membership dues are helping pay the remaining portion of the $41,000 cost. To help with funds, the historical society will hold a “White Elephant Sale" - which will include historical books - on the museum grounds on Sept. 26. The event will be held during the BPW Barn Sale. Items for the sale may be donated at the historical society, located at 926 W. Washington Street.
