Commission hears of break-in attempt

— The Camden Airport Commission met recently to discuss a few items of business, including the report of an attempted break-in at a piece of property owned by the local commission.

Chairman of the commission, Phillip McBride, brought it to the attention of the commissioners that the U.S. Postal Service contacted him about an attempted break-in at the old post office building owned by the commission. The needed repairs caused by the perpetrator have already been taken care of. The building is listed as an available building, but is still under lease by the U.S. Postal Service until 2018.

The commissioners spoke about a leak that needs repair in a building being leased and other concerns regarding the property, including a cleanup and trees on the fence-line. They commission will discuss this more with the business owners that are leasing the property to find a solution that suits everyone.

The commission advertised for bids to tear down and clean up a piece of property owned by the commission, but only received one bid, which the members voted to deny.

An area that the commission wanted to have a controlled burn can no longer have the burn due to the time of year and the weather. Commissioner Kyle Gatling said that an Arkansas Forestry representative stated that the commission’s best option now is to mulch the area. Gatling contacted Dixon Dozer Service to get an estimate on the 68 acres that need to be mulched. He said he will let the rest of the commission know when he is given an estimate, and they will go from there.

Also, Commissioner Britt Williford stated that the group could possibly meet in town instead of at the airport if they are going to continue to have noon meetings. Everyone on the commission works or lives in Camden, so it would be more convenient. The meeting also often goes on for more than an hour, and having the meeting in a location where the commissioners can get lunch would be ideal.

Meeting place and time options will be considered and discussed between the members of the commission at a later date, but it was stated that they would like to meet at the airport at least once a quarter.
