Habitat for Humanity preps for project

— The Ouachita County Habitat for Humanity will host a “BLITZ Build” for its newest build beginning at 8 a.m. Friday.

Meshia Flannigan and her family were chosen by the organization for the home that will be located at 225 South St., which will be the fourth home to be built by HFH in Ouachita County.

Board members, Flannigan, and other volunteers have been working on the land where the home will be located for several months to prepare for the build.

HFH board chairman Travis Daniel said that the organization is currently looking for any volunteers to help with the weekend build.

During the three-day-blitz build, volunteers will begin with a concrete slab Friday morning, and by Sunday afternoon, they will be putting shingles on the roof, according to Daniel.

This is a complete volunteer effort and Habitat for Humanity members are encouraging residents to go to the site to help out or to simply witness what Habitat for Humanity does for the community.

“It takes all kinds of skills to make this a success, so even if you have never swung a hammer or you have done construction all your life, there is something for everyone to do,” Daniel stated.

“You may want to bring a level, extension cord, ladder, hammers, nail guns, measuring tape, circular saw, drill, gloves, safety glasses. You can come help anytime during the event; you don’t have to stay for the whole thing.”
