Crawfish boil is set

— The Ouachita County Fair Board will host its First Annual Crawfish Cook-off on Saturday, April 29, at the county fairgrounds in East Camden.

The gates will be open to the public beginning at 5 p.m. and the event will take place rain or shine, according to Ouachita County Sheriff’s Department Detective and Ouachita County Fair Board member Nathan Greeley.

Advance tickets for the cook-off are currently being sold by fair board members - $12 for two pounds of crawfish or $20 for all you can eat. There will be limited tickets available at the gate on the day of the event for $25.

Teams of up to five people will cook a minimum of two sacks of crawfish, along with corn and potatoes, and compete for a $500 grand prize.

There will also be a people’s choice award. According n Greeley, 15 teams have signed up to compete in the cook-off.

There will also be drinks, hot dogs, and nachos available for sale, as well as entertainment, and fun activities for both adults and children.

The proceeds from the event will be used by the fair board to continue to educate the youth of the county in agriculture through activities.
