CAMDEN — Area law enforcement officers reported today that they have taken in for questioning two suspects who may have been involved in a robbery incident Friday evening.
Around 1 p.m. today, the Camden Police Department - coordinating with the Ouachita County Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Task Force - served a search warrant on a residence near the corner of Maple and Cleveland Streets. The Camden News was at the scene when the two suspects were taken in for questioning regarding the incident.
CPD Chief Bo Woody stated that there was evidence found in the residence.
The chief added that investigators worked through the weekend, following leads which led to a search warrant being served on the residence. Woody also said that “the investigators are currently conducting the interviews, and more information will be available once those interviews are completed.”
The robbery incident took place outside the Dollar Tree store, and a son of one of the women involved in the hold-up reported that the men accosted the female employees as the women were leaving the store with a “money bag.”
Casey King stated that the women “were ambushed by two unidentified black males. One spoke with an unfamiliar accent.” He said one man held his mother “hostage” at gunpoint “while they were trying to get the money bag.” The second person was described as wearing a black ski mask and brown coveralls and was trying to steal the other lady’s purse.
Reportedly, the man who was not wearing a mask stated to King’s mother: “I want you to see my face,” King stated in his Facebook post. He also shared that one of the men shot at his mother, but that she was not hit. The gunshots were reportedly heard by a person - or persons - at Fox Liquor because law-enforcement dispatch stated that someone at the establishment reported “shots fired” around the time of the robbery incident. This dispatch message was heard over area scanners. No further information was available by press time today.
