Movies on the River will kick off the 2017 summer season on June 2, but the first showing of this season will be held at the community's new splash pad, according to a news release.

The movie that will be presented Friday will be "Moana," and will be shown at the new splash pad at Carnes Park. This feature is rated PG, and admission is free.

The start time for the movie will be at dusk - around 8:15 p.m., and vendors will be on hand with snacks for participants. Those attending the event can also provide their own snacks.

The movie presentation will be rescheduled to Saturday night in the event of rain.

The film tells the story of Moana, the strong-willed daughter of the chief of a Polynesian tribe, who is chosen by the ocean to reunite a mystical relic with a goddess. When a blight strikes her island, Moana sets sail in search of Maui, a legendary demigod, in the hope of saving her people. The remaining movies scheduled to be held over the summer will be shown at the Camden Riverwalk Amphitheater on a giant screen with a massive theater-style sound system, and will be shown each Friday in June and July.

The amphitheater is located at 405 Washington St. in downtown Camden.

Other movies scheduled to be shown are:

• "Sing" on June 9. Rated PG

• "Lego Batman Movie" on June 16. Rated PG.

• "The Land Before Time" on June 23. Rated G.
