The Arkansas Creating Connection for Children organization, through the local office of the Department of Children and Family Services, is holding an event from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Public Library of Camden and Ouachita County for individuals who are interested in becoming a foster parent or volunteering to help local agencies find housing for children in the foster-care system, according to a news release.

Currently, there are 42 foster children in the foster-care system in Ouachita County, and a total of only three foster homes available in the county.

The area is in need of family homes for youth 6 and older, separated siblings, and children and youth with special needs.

The children who are not placed with a family are placed outside of the county, in group homes or shelters, the news release states.

Individuals who are interested in becoming a foster parent or is interested in volunteering with transporting, foster family support, mentoring, and tutoring can attend Tuesday's event and will receive information about how to start the process and will be able to submit and inquiry.

Also, if people are interested on how they can provide help during the holidays, they can contact Shanel Robin - the Ouachita County Supervisor of Division of Children and Family Services - at 870-836-2591, or Dorthy Green at 870-390-0351
