According to a news release from Live on Stage, Petty is hailed by critics as one of the best Hank Williams impersonators on the scene today. The release states that Petty began his career at Nashville’s Opryland Theme Park - 50 miles from the farm where he grew up. He went on to perform at prestigious venues like the Ryman Auditorium, and even Broadway’s Little Shubert Theatre. His show - "Hank & My Honky Tonk Heroes" - has been praised by big-time critics like Rolling Stone, Variety, and the New York Times. The performer brings the "authentic and insightful story of Hank Williams Sr. to life by giving the audience a personal look at Williams’ upbringing, his road to fame, his influences and the performers of today that were influenced by him," states the news release.

The website www.jasonpetty.brownpapertickets.com states that after two years of touring his critically acclaimed musical biography "Lost Highway," Petty began touring the U.S. and Canada with the show. And in 2002, the show went to New York and made its off-Broadway debut. "Petty earned off Broadway's highest acting award, The Obie, for his riveting portrayal of the musical genius and tortured soul, Hank Williams Sr.," the sites states, and adds that Petty "has been lauded for his storytelling ability, with his down-home humor and southern charm. His singing of Williams classic songs is the best there's ever been, according to Don Helms (Hank's best friend and steel guitar player) and many, many others."
