An area organization is putting aside time to offer guidance to youth.

The Organized Guidance Community Development will have a Community Prayer event from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the corner of Adams and Grinstead Street. The event is free and will offer food, music and entertainment. There will also be bounce houses for the children’s’ enjoyment. The Personal Enhancement Mobile Barbershop will provide free haircuts for children in need and members of the Busy Bee Lodge 345 and Architect Lodge 90 will be in attendance.

The Camden News spoke to OGCD founder Kevin Watson about the purpose of the event.

“We are just trying to do something for these kids and offer them some guidance,” Watson said. “We have a lot of great kids here and all they need is for someone to listen to them and give them some attention. It goes a long way in building a better community because if we don’t help our kids then who will?”

OGCD organized a Stop the Violence March in Camden in 2014 and has since been involved with several events throughout the state of Arkansas.

Watson is a native of Camden and said he has always had a passion for helping kids because he knows the obstacles they encounter. He wants to see them make the right choices and become business owners and successful adults.

“There’s more,” Watson said. “I don’t want kids to be comfortable with just surviving. I want to see them owning their own land and companies. We want to teach them that they can do it.”
