The Camden Fairview Lady Cardinals softball team celebrated its seniors on Monday and the retirement of a long time coach with a victory.

C.F. blasted the Watson Chapel Lady Wildcats, 11-1, during senior night. Seniors Alex Chavez, Grace Kelley, Makenna Smith and Knorjia Tooks were presented with plaques before the game and longtime C.F. Coach Julie McClelland was recognized. McClelland is set to retire at the conclusion of the season.

C.F. Coach Kendra Center said she was very proud of her team’s performance in the game.

“It was important for us to send them out on a good note,” Center said about her team’s seniors. “We got to get some kids in the game that don’t get to play a lot and it was an overall good team win... We are fairly young with only four seniors, but we’re definitely going to miss them.

This year’s group of seniors are poised to make the 5A State Playoffs for the second year in-a-row after making the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

Center talked about the impact of McClelland and the senior on the Lady Cardinal Softball program.

“Thank you,” Center said. “Just for the time that they have dedicated and their efforts. It’s not easy being a student athlete or a coach and I think they’ve done a really good job of representing our team.”
