Teams open golf season

Golf season is already in full affect for the Harmony Grove and Camden Fairview golf teams. Both teams recently played well in a season opener from earlier this week.

The state champion Lady Hornets of Harmony Grove finished in second place at the 23rd annual Simmons First Wildcat Invitational Golf Tournament in El Dorado. The Cardinals fell just 7 shots shy of a victory against Warren at the Camden Country Club.

Sheridan won the match in El Dorado by shooting a 301, H.G. followed with a 304. El Dorado (313), Benton (326) and Bryant (350) rounded out the top 5.

Sidney Pigott was the runner up medalist with a 85. Laurie Ledbetter shot 104 followed by Alyssa Mantooth (115) and Grace Vint (118).

H.G. will travel to Pine Hills on Tuesday to take on Smackover.

Cards play well against Warren

Chad Sponer shot a 49 to lead the Cardinals. Tyler Wenderling, Mason Furlow and Joey Hobbie all shot 50. Adam Mosley shot a 55 and Hayden Bradshaw shot 58.

“It was a good start to the season for us,” C.F. Golf Coach Rachael Dover said. “I feel like our student athletes have great potential and I’m really looking forward to seeing them grow over the season. We thank the Camden Country Club for allowing us to use the course. They are always welcoming.”

C.F. will travel to DeQueen on Thursday to play in a three - team match with the host and Prescott.
