For Camden Fairview, you would have to go back a few years to find the last time it had four student athletes make the Arkansas All State Football team, and you would have to go back even further to find the last time a Cardinal football coach was picked to represent the 5A South Conference.
On Monday, C.F. Head Football Coach Jake Monden was selected as the 5A South All Star Coach and Stacey Wilkins II, Qwaishaun Thompson, Tyree Holliman and Demetrius ”DX” Moore. The Cardinals also had 9 players make the All Conference team and another 5 made Honorable Mention.
“Most we have in a while and the most we’ve had since I’ve been here,” Monden said. “This year we (the coaches from the conference) voted on the 22 best players instead of saying this team gets this many players on there and that team gets this many players on there. So they were really among the best overall in the conference. I’m just really proud of those guys. They worked really hard and they deserved it. They are just as good students as they are football players.”
Monden said to be voted as the All Star Coach for the 5A South was an “honor.” Like the all state and all conference team, the all star coach is selected by the other coaches in the conference.
“It means a lot,” Monden said. “I’m proud to represent our conference and get to work with some of our kids.”
The All Star football game will be held in the summer.
Monden already has 65 students in the offseason program, not including the ones that are playing basketball or baseball. Monden shared that he will also comb the halls at the school to see if anymore student athletes are interested in football.
“Offseason has been going well.,” Monden shared. “Things are starting to get a lot easier now,” Monden said “Kids are knowing what to expect and they are working hard. We want to keep getting better. Our freshman are hitting the weights and we have already started our running program.”
