The Ouachita County Sheriffs Office issued a news release regarding an accident that occurred at Victory Lumber Company that resulted in the death of an employee.

The news release says that the OCSD was dispatched to Victory Lumber Company on Ouachita County Road 67 on Thursday morning on the report of a man trapped under the bucket of a loader.

Upon arrival, deputies observed the subject - later identified as Samuel Buchanan, 47, of Camden - unresponsive under the bucket of a loader.

Employees of Victory Lumber were able to lift the bucket using another machine. Members of the Camden Fire Department provided medical treatment until Ouachita County Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived on scene and transported Buchanan to the Ouachita County Medical Center.

At OCMC, Buchanan was pronounced deceased by Ouachita County Coroner Sylvester Smith.

“Employees identified Buchanan as a mechanic for Victory Lumber Company,” the new release states.

“The investigation still continues at this time.”

The Camden News spoke with OCSD Detective Nathan Greeley concerning a rumor that a train was at rest on Ouachita 67 near Victory Lumber, blocking EMS from getting to the victim. Greeley stated that the OCSD and the CFD had to reroute a few blocks over to get to the scene of the accident, but the train had moved by the time EMS had arrived.
