Garner dies at 68

Former Ouachita County Sheriff Ben Garner passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018 at his home.

Garner served as sheriff from 1991 until 2002. Before his death, he also served as chairman of the Civil Service Commission of Camden.

Municipal entities across the county expressed their condolences online:

• In a Facebook post, Camden Mayor Marie Trisollini said:

“In my time as mayor, he served faithfully on the Civil Service Commission and often came to see me just to visit. I’ll miss him, but he is finally no longer in pain. I pray for comfort for all of his family and friends.”

• On its official Facebook page, the Ouachita County Sheriff's Department posted:

“Sheriff David Norwood and the Ouachita County Sheriff’s Department are sadden to hear (about) the passing of a great man in our community. Join us in offering our prayers and condolences to the family and friends of former Ouachita County Sheriff Ben Garner.”

• Ouachita County Judge Robbie McAdoo said:

“Our hearts are heavy this morning, but a great man is not in pain or struggling. Please join me in prayer for former Sheriff Ben Garner's family, and thank you for your longtime service to Ouachita County.”
