Jerry Scaife

— Jerry Scaife

Jerry Scaife, 62, of Abbeville, Mississippi, and formerly of Camden, Arkansas, died on Oct. 26, 2018, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford, Mississippi, after a hard fought battle with cancer.

He worked as a grounds keeper for country clubs for years before settling into a career with Maverick trucking. He took pride in his job, and worked tirelessly to provide for his household. He earned several awards during his employment, but what proved most valuable were his friendships with co-workers.

He was a pretty good football player in his younger years, and later loved to hunt, fish, grill and watch football.

He was the best of the best when it came to being a ‘Papaw.’ His grandchildren knew he always had candy and a tall tale on hand.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Scaife; brother, Willie Scaife; two grandchildren, Christian and Joshua; and special mother-in-law, Oleta Reeves.

He is survived by his father, Billy Scaife of Rio Hondo, Texas; his wife, Debbie Scaife of Abbeville, Mississippi; two daughters, April Griffis of Hampton, Arkansas, and Shannon Scaife of Camden; two sons, Ricky Reeves of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Joey Chamness of Abbeville, Mississippi; a brother, Ricky Scaife of Taylor, Arkansas; sisters, Barbie Washburn of Marvell, Arkansas, and Jennifer Palmer of Magnolia, Arkansas; ; 10 grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce, Mississippi, is in charge of the arrangements.

There will be a small service with family on Nov. 24 to carry out his final wishes in Taylor.
