The Camden Fairview Basketball programs split games on the road against Malvern earlier this week.

The C.F. Lady Cardinals JV won its game, 22-19, the Lady Cardinals Varsity team won 34-32 and the Cardinal Varsity loss 55-50.

The J.V. Lady Cards used a spread scoring attack to pick up the close win as Hailey Rodgers, Grace Tidwell, Jakayla Harris and Cartazia Anders each scored three points. Jayanna Reed, Madison Thurman, Zay Fort, Tamia Dandridge, Sierra Leconte and Sumoria Smith rounded out the scoring.

In the varsity girls game, it was Tai’Sheka Porchia who led the team in scoring with 10 points. Raven Porchia and Anna Dawson added six points each and Jiyah Jeffers added four. Takari Glover and Jayla Jackson had big threes during the game and Alexis Askew hit a critical free throw in the fourth quarter.

The game was tied at 27 entering the fourth quarter.

Coach Johnny Jackson’s Lady Cardinals gutted it out against a Malvern team that had already played 5 games before face the Lady Cardinals. The foul calls were also heavily in the Leopard’s favor throughout the first half. Overall, the Lady Cardinals did a good job of protecting the ball and making the key plays down the stretch for the win.

In varsity boys action, Chris Strahan led the team with 14 points followed by Jalen Moore (12), Dashaire Ford-Burton (12) and Qwaishaun Thompson (11). The Cardinals led 40-36 entering the final segment but a 21-10 run gave Malvern the edge.

It was the fourth game of the season for the Leopards but only the first for the Cardinals. Several of the Cardinals came over from football just last week.

“I saw some positives from last night,” C.F. Head Coach Josh Nix said. “We got some things we will work on. Dashaire came in and really played some good defense for us. We just gotta keep working.”

Next week will be a busy one for the C.F. as the Lady Cardinals will play in the Forcyce Bank & Trust Basketball Tournament starting on Monday.

The Cardinals and Lady Cardinals will then travel to take on Centerpoint on Tuesday. The Lady Cardinals could play on Wednesday back in Fordyce before traveling along with the Cardinals to take on El Dorado on Thursday. The Lady Cardinals are hoping to play in the championship game of the FB&T Tournament which will be scheduled on Saturday.
