Bearden Jr’s upset El Dorado

BEARDEN---After playing poorly last week in a 42-12 loss to Harmony Grove, the Bearden Jr. Bears bounced back with a good effort Tuesday night to upset the class 6A Barton Jr. High Wildcats from El Dorado by the final score of 22 to 6 at Rogers Field. With the win, Bearden improves to 1-1 on the season while Barton falls to 0-1 on the year.

The Jr. Bears got the ball first and using their speed to get to the outside of the Wildcats defense they drove 70 yards to score on a 21 yard run by Trea Hardin and Jaylon Cones ran the convesion to put the Jr. Bears on top 8-0 with 4:02 ledt in the quarter.

Early in the second period, Bearden drove 69 yards to score on a three yard run by Harding and this time Dominic Hammond ran the conversion overand the home team enjoyed a 16-0 advantage. El Dorado Barton scored their only touchdown of the game behind the running of Damari Harper with 2:30 left in the first half. Bearden stopped Harper on the two-point try and Bearden led 16-6 at intermission.

Early in the third quarter Bearden Oshey Yarborough recovered a fumble at the visitors 24 yard line and the Jr. Bears scored in three plays on a 5 yard run by Royce Cones. A run for two points was short leaving Bearden in front 22-6, which turned out to be the final score of the ballgame.

Bearden’s next game will be Sept. 13 at Strong for an 8-2A conference game.
