CN announces Week 4 Players of the Week

The Camden News has released its Week 3 Players of the Week.

The “Players of the Week” feature is sponsored by Farmers Bank & Trust.

The Harmony Grove Hornets had the week off last week.

Camden Fairview left tackle Stacey Wilkins II graded out at an 85 percent in C.F.’s 41-12 loss to Joe T. Robinson. Wilkins ended the game with six pancakes - a term used to describe when an offensive lineman leaves a would be tackler on his back so the ball carrier can run in the gap - and 11 total knockdowns. Wilkins verbally committed to Oklahoma University in August and was matched up against Arkansas committ Zach Williams throughtout the night.

Also for the Cardinals, senior defensive end Kavion Kelly played one of the best games of his high school career. Kelly had 11 total tackles - 4.5 tackles for losses and one sack.

The Bearden Defense was touted by Bearden Head Coach Trey Outlaw for its performance against Bearden in a 10-8 loss to Gurdon.

Josh Tyler, C.J. Quarles, Cohen Word, Kendrick Juniel, Garrett McWhorter, Scott Graves and Marquis Nelson all made big plays on defense during the game.

The Bears defense forced four fumbles, thwarted multiple fourth-and-short situations and held a talented Gurdon offense to just one touchdown. On the season, the Bears defense is only allowing 12 points per game.

C.F.’s senior wide receiver and special teams return man Qwaishaun Thompson returned the opening kickoff for a phenomenal 95-yard touchdown. Thompson also caught a pass for 29 yards during the game.

Bearden’s Javion Robinson scored Bearden’s only touchdown on a 25-yard catch and run from Cohen Word in the fourth quarter.
