DONALD S. VANNDonald Stuart Vann, 77, of Magnolia, died on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, in his home with his wife of 53 years, Mary, by his side.
He was born on July 1, 1932, in McNab, the son of Claude and Dola (Stevens) Vann. Don had a long and rewarding career in which he worked in many positions including Metropolitan Life Insurance and Monsanto Chemical in Texas City, Texas, 26 years at Shanhouse Outerwear, and Porterco in Magnolia. He retired from Ditto Apparel in Colfax, La., after 18 years of work where he served as director of personnel and as compliance officer. Don and Mary traveled extensively for 12 years with the Travel Supreme RV Club where he served as treasurer for five years. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jo Ed Vann, Claude Emmett Vann and K.D. Vann; three sisters, Sonja Lancaster, Margie Herrod and Imogene Wiley; and one son, Stuart Vann. Don is survived by his wife, Mary; one daughter, Katherine Nichols and husband, Jerry, of Chidester; two sons, Ken Willhoite and wife, Amanda, of Emerson and John Vann and wife, Ann, of Magnolia; six grandchildren, Amy Hendricks of Magnolia, Sarah Collier and husband, Kevin, of Taylor, Matt Vann of Magnolia, Abby Vann of Magnolia, Katherine Cardwell of Stillwater, Okla., and John Robert Cardwell of Springfield, Mo.; five great-grandchildren and two brothers, Travis Vann of Magnolia and Larry Vann and wife, Reen, of Crossroads, Texas. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday in Lewis Chapel with Bro. David Watkins officiating and assisted by Bro. Bob Inmon. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home in Magnolia. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Kevin Collier, John White, Phillip Hartsfield, Matt Vann, Rodney Garrard and Jordan Bolser. Honorary pallbearers will be the First Baptist Church Faith Sunday School class.
