Lloyd Flynt
Dr. Lloyd Clayton Flynt, 92, of Camden, died March 4, 2010. He was born July 31, 1917, in Lonoke to the late William and Lola Flynt.
Flynt graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College in 1941 and Baylor Dental College in Dallas, Texas. He joined the Navy in 1941 and became an aviation cadet. In 1944, he boarded the Enterprise in Pearl Harbour with destination to Iwo Jima. On Oct. 15, 1944, he gave air support in the invasion of the Philippines and on Oct. 25, 1944, at the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He was awarded the Navy Cross, the Air Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation for his outstanding work as a pilot of a Navy Helldiver. Upon completion of dental school in Dallas in 1949, he and Marian moved to Camden. He retired after the death of his wife in 1986. After his retirement from dentistry, he proudly worked for Proctor Funeral Home for over 20 years. Flynt loved to work in his shop building duck houses, birdhouses, etc. to give to his friends and neighbors and continued to play golf twice a week at the young age of 91 years old. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marian; son, Steven William Flynt; sister, Emma Bowie; and three stepbrothers. Survivors include his daughter, Jill Flynt Steelman and husband, Sam; two brothers, Alvin and William Flynt; four grandsons, Noel Steelman and wife, Kilatha, Gary Steelman and wife, Alicia, Clayton Flynt Steelman and wife, Dr. Lydia, and Christopher Flynt; and several great-grandchildren. Dr. Flynt’s family sends special thanks to the staff at Pine Hills Health and Rehabilitation, Dr. Bill Dedman, and his 80-years-and-older golfing buddies. Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
