MATTIE E. BARTON


Mattie Emaline Barton, 90, of El Dorado, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010, at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home.

Born Sept. 18, 1919, in Mineral Wells, Texas, she was the daughter of the late David Albert Mays and Henrietta Gillespie Mays. She was a homemaker, a member of Green Grove Assembly of God and a Bible scholar. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and gospel singing.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Merton Wayne Barton; three brothers, D.A. Mays, Johnnie Mays and J.C. Mays; two sisters, Fannie Boland and Ruth McMillian; and three great-grandsons, Ethan Scott Barton, Aaron Isaiah Barton and Ruston Lee Greer.

Survivors include two sons, Danny Barton and his wife Carol of Crossett, and Gary Barton and his wife Carol of El Dorado; two daughters, Renetta Greer and her husband Ralph of Hector, and Winna Adams and her husband Jimmy of El Dorado; a brother, Harrell Mays of Friona, Texas; a sister, Winnie Tucker of Mexia, Texas; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Young’s Chapel with the Rev. Terry Burke and the Rev. B.L. Blann officiating. Interment will follow in Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
