EL DORADO — Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its centennial this year and the 11-county De Soto Area Council has several celebratory events planned for the area.

Scout Executive Rob Lavoie said the De Soto Council has been around for at least 60 of those 100 years. It has grown to encompass 1,600 youth members and 500 registered volunteers, with 13 troops in the El Dorado area alone. “That doesn’t count the hours parents put in to help out their son but don’t become officially registered,” he said.
