Barkhimer, an eighth grader, won first place in the bee by taking a written test. She will soon find out if she qualifies for the state geography bee. Students in grades 4-8 competed in classroom bees, and 10 students competed in the finals. Bearden, a sixth grader, placed second, and Bird, a fourth grader, was third.
