Camark Pottery firm goes on auction block


Above are some of the pieces of Camark Pottery to be auctioned Saturday in Camden. The pieces of finished pottery include vases, bowls, ashtrays and several bright red Arkansas Razorback figurines.
CAMDEN — From 1926 until the early ’70s, Camark Pottery operated on Pottery Road in Camden and people from all over the globe collected the pieces manufactured here with clay from nearby Lester.

According to encyclopediaofarkansas.net, “Founded in 1926, Camden Art Tile and Pottery Company was the third and last producer of art pottery in Arkansas. By the end of its first year, its name had changed to Camark to include both the city of Camden (Ouachita County) and the state of Arkansas. Camark Pottery eventually become one of Camden’s best-known industries and was known nationwide. ...
