The Camden Fairview swim team is making great strides - or strokes - since its inception. In the past, C.F. would always have one or two student athletes that competed in swim competitions. But now, C.F. has an actual team that is making its way on to everyone’s radar under Head Coach Tarah Wylie.

The C.F. swim team placed fourth overall in the District Swim meet at Henderson State University last Friday.

Senior Shuntario Smith placed fifth in the 200 yard freestyle.

Jacob Wylie placed third in the 100 yard butterfly, shaving a second off his best time. He also finished fifth in the 200 yard individual medley.

Jacob May came in ninth in the 50 freestyle and cut two seconds off her best time. She then finished seventh in the backstroke.

Senior Gabrielle Fife shaved a second off of her 100 freestyle to finish sixth. She also finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke.

Meghan Parker came in eighth in 100 freestyle and freshman Keaton Arnold also competed well during the meet.

Since the season began, the team has improved every time out.

“I’m super proud of all the swimmers accomplishments this year,” Wylie said. “I will miss my seniors but looking forward to watch my others continue to grow in the future.”

C.F. Athletic Director Ricky Tucker applauded Wylie for her work with the swimming team and said that she has “taken it to another level” since she became the head coach.

“We would always have one or two students that would swim and even had one earn a scholarship a couple of years ago (A.J. Rogers),” Tucker said. “Since she (Wylie) took over, she has established a team. I think the interest is growing and hopefully we’ll get even more students to participate.”
