H.G.’s FFA team places at events

— The Harmony Grove FFA Chapter competed in the State Career Development Event contest held in Fayetteville in 2018 and returned home with a state championship in the forestry event, states a news release from the H.G. School District.

The team consisted of members from various grades including senior, Zach Brinegar; juniors, Gannon Bearden and Ryan Sorrells; and sophomore, Chase Stanberry. Brinegar placed number one forester at the state contest.

Harmony Grove’s Agriculture teacher and FFA sponsor is Weston Haynes. The team members earned state championship rings for winning at the state level.

In October, the Harmony Grove Forestry Team went on to compete in the National FFA Forestry contest in Indianapolis, Indiana. The team represented Arkansas well and placed 14th at the National Competition, the release states. This year’s team members are seniors, Gannon Bearden and Ryan Sorrells; and juniors, Chase Stanberry and Zachary Smith.

The school district said it is thankful for the local businesses that sponsored the forestry team’s expenses to Indiana for lodging and meals. Those who donated include Douthit Tie & Lumber, Farmer’s Bank & Trust, Frank Bearden Electric, Mr. Clean Car Wash, Ray White Lumber, Rogers Lumber Company, Sorrells Sawmill, and Sen. Trent Garner.
