The Camden Fairview Lady Cardinals varsity team is still undefeated in conference play after defeating the Magnolia Lady Panthers in Panther arena on Tuesday, 55-46.

The win in Columbia County was the first for C.F. Head Girls Coach Johnny Jackson in his tenure at C.F. and it wasn’t because of any lack of effort.

Last season, a shorthanded Lady Cardinals team lost on the road to Magnolia in an overtime game.

“This was a huge game,” Jackson said leading up to Tuesday’s game.”We need that one to get ready for Star City on Friday.”

Guard play was a key ingredient to the Lady Cardinals win as its post players landed in foul trouble early. C.F. led from wire to wire with quick three pointers from Jayla Jackson and Anna Dawson.

Magnolia came up with a three-point play to come within one of the Lady Cardinals but Jayla Jackson was able to hit another three-pointer just before the first half buzzer to go up 21-17.

C.F. was able to speed up the tempo with defensive pressure and get easy buckets to expand on its lead. The visiting team led 38-27 before ultimately winning 55-46. Jayla Jackson led the team with a season-high 23 points followed by Dawson with 16 points. Tai’Sheka Porchia scored 6 points and had 7 rebounds in limited minutes. Madison Thurman scored six point with three rebounds and two steals off the bench.

Varsity Cardinals lose

The Cardinals boys lost its first conference game of the season, 69-50.

The game began with a brief tribute to Chris Strahan when Magnolia players gave gifts to Khris and Christian Strahan to honor their father who was a standout player at Waldo and has coached several students in the AAU circuit. The attendees of the arena gave a standing ovation for the exchange.

Then it was game time.

The Cardinals trailed early as fantastic freshman Derriond Ford went to work and propelled Magnolia to a 9-0 lead. C.F. started to chip back into the contest with three from Khris Strahan and Dashaire Ford Burton. Magnolia would go on another run before C.F. would get the game down to two possessions just before half time.

C.F. came out in the third quarter confident and was able to come within 38-36 halfway through the quarter.

From there, Magnolia took over and didn’t look back.

Ford led all scorers with 30 points, 19 in the first half..

Khris Strahan led C.F. with 14 points and two blocks followed by Jalen Moore with 11 points and Ford-Burton with nine points. Tyree Holliman finished with seven points, Qwaishun Thompson scored six and Christian Strahan added three.

C.F. will return to the confides of its own home for games against Start City on Friday.
