John Gerard Sessoms died on April 14, 2019.

Born on April 27, 1947, in Camden, Arkansas, John grew up in Camden. He attended Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. Graduating in 1969, he moved to Nashville to teach.

From 1977-1996, John managed - then owned and operated Parts Port - an imported auto-parts store in Nashville. When Parts Port closed, he returned to teaching.

A dedicated teacher, he was teaching ecology at Cane Ridge H.S. when he became ill in October.

For 11 wonderful summers, John and Ann worked at Camp Thunderbird in Bemidji, Minnesota. They were the arts and crafts specialists, known to campers as “Rooster” and “Rosie.”

John was a devoted and loving husband and father. He loved the ocean, Florida beaches, travel, music, and dancing. Cooking was his passion.

He enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. Known for his friendly optimistic spirit and his wonderful Arkansas accent, he carried laughter, energy, and a love of life with him.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Close Sessoms of Nashville; their three children, Jacob (Alicia) of Asheville, North Carolina, Charley (Vickie) of San Antonio, and Marissa (Geoff) of New Orleans; two grandsons, Dallas and Atticus of Asheville.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 16, at Two Rivers Mansion in Nashville beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday followed until 8:30 p.m. by music, dancing, and food prepared by the chef’s son, Jacob. RSVP Alicia at 828-280-7426, or Ann at 615-584-3500
