A Camden family that recently lost their son to cancer is giving the child a full military service and requests that service members attend in uniform.

Oakley Nimmo was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Neuroblastoma in late November of 2015 and passed away on Thursday, June 20.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, June 25, at Cullendale First Baptist Church in Camden with burial at Furr Cemetery in Locust Bayou. Bro. David Dillard will officiate the service.

An excerpt from his obituary reads, “Oakley spent most of this life fighting to live, and did it with a smile on his face. In between hospital stays, Oakley spent his free time driving his power wheels and shooting his toy guns. He often talked of being an ‘Army Man,’ as he called it, when he grew up.”

A Facebook post from Nimmo’s family stated:

“We are going to give Oakley a full military service in honor of his wish to become an “Army Man” one day. We ask that any active military members and/or veterans to please attend the funeral in their uniforms.

“We also want to point out that any donations made to Oakley’s Gofundme or his PayPal account ([email protected]) from now on will be put toward his service and headstone.

“We really want to pay tribute to this soldier so once we get the details set, please make plans to come and honor Oakley and the fight he has fought. We want it to be big so we can send off this sweet boy, with a bang.”

Several flags were set at half staff last week in honor of Nimmo. He was granted his Make-A-Wish gift in April of 2018, and went to Orlando, Florida, where he visited Lego-Land, Disney World and Sea World. Other fundraisers were held for Nimmo such as the GuessFest crawfish boil, poker runs and numerous other events.
