Pedestrian killed on Hwy 7

— A pedestrian was struck and killed near Carnes Park late Tuesday night.

Isaiah R. “Wolf” Reed, 65, of Camden was walking north on Arkansas 7 at the bridge between Carnes Park and the Ouachita County Sheriff’s department when he was hit by a vehicle driven by Tyler Lockhart.

According to an incident report recorded by Camden Police Department Officer Jake Perry, he arrived to the scene at the bridge on Arkansas 7 around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night. CPD blocked the north bound traffic on Arkansas 7 and requested help from the Ouachita County Sheriff’s Department to re-route traffic coming north at the stop light on Goodgame Street.

Once the scene was secure, Perry said that he located Lockhart and noticed visible damage to the front of Lockhart’s vehicle from the impact with Reed. Lockhart stated he was traveling north bound on Arkansas 7 in the inside lane nearest the median when he noticed Reed step in front of his vehicle. Lockhart stated he struck Reed with the passenger side front bumper of his vehicle. Lockhart then stopped his vehicle and notified the police department.

Sergeant Kyle McDaniel was the on call investigator on Tuesday and was called to the scene for the investigation to be turned over to him. After McDaniel’s investigation was complete, Perry and Arkansas State Trooper Sequoyah Browning began to measure and map out the scene. Ouachita County Coroner Sylvester Smith was called to the scene and he pronounced Reed deceased.

The report states that Lockhart was notified of the fatality and was informed of the procedures after a fatal crash. Lockhart was transported to the Ouachita County Medical Center for lab work to determine if he was under the influence. He was then released to the custody of his grandparents.
