Camden News announces ‘19 All-County teams

The Camden News 2019 All County teams have been determined. Deciding factors used to select players include a student athlete’s impact on his or her team, career accomplishments, post season awards, their availability, conduct and overall team success.

• All County Girls Team: Camden Fairview’s Jayla Jackson, Anna Dawson and Tai’Sheka Porchia; Bearden’s Evie Porter and Harmony Grove’s Halley Bryant.

C.F.’s 19 win-season was the best since 2013. Porchia is a two-time All Conference players with Porchia earning All State honors and being nominated to play in the Arkansas High School All Star game. Porchia is signed to continue her basketball career at Angelina College in Texas. Porchia averaged around 17 points per game and had several games with multiple blocks.

Dawson is a three-time All Conference performer and averaged around 11 points per game and scored a career high of 28 points in a Cardinal win against El Dorado.

Jackson is a three-time All Conference performer and averaged 12 points per game and was the best three point shooter on her team.

Porter is a two-time All Conference performer and has started varsity basketball since her sophomore year at Bearden. She was sidelined by an early season injury her junior year but returned to be her team’s leading scorer this season.

Halley Bryant is a three-time All Conference performer. She is one of the best defensive players in the conference and is a floor general for the Lady Hornets. She was thrust into more of a scoring role after losing one of her teammates - Sidney Pigott- to a season-ending injury. Bryant averaged nearly 15 points per game.

• The Rookie of the Year (reserved for sophomores): C.F.’s Jihya Jefferson.

Honorable Mention - Abby Stafford and Logan Ramey.

• 6th Woman of the Year: C.F. ‘s Tania Dandridge Honorable Mention - Hayley Eads

Most Improved Player of they Year: H.G.’s Hayley Eads.

Honorable Mention: Madison Thurman

• Newcomer of the Year: Shae Juniel.

• All County Girls bench team/Honorable Mention: Olivia Knight, Hayley Eads, Nybrea Hughes, Shae Juniel, Takari Glover, Raven Porchia, Jiyha Jefferson, Sidney Pigott and Alexis Askew

• All County Boys Team: C.F.’s Qwaishaun Thompson and Jaylen Moore; H.G.’s Landon McMahan and Bearden’s Lavarious Hughes and Garrett McWhorter.

Thompson is a two-year All Conference performer and had his most explosive season since being a three year starter for C.F. He suffered a season ending injury his sophomore year and missed several games to injury his junior year. This year, Thompson eclipsed the 20 point mark in 7 games on his way to averaging 18 points over the season.

Moore is a two-year All Conference performer and had a strong season averaging 15 points per game. He is also the team’s best rebounder and uses his vertical abilities for big time blocks and strong finishes at the rim.

McMahan is one of the best guards in the conference with both shooting and passing abilities. McMahan is also very consistent and is at the top of every opponent’s’ scout sheet. He saw more time in the starting role this year and made the most of it.

Hughes was announced to the All Conference team for the third time this season and still has another season to go after being a starter for the Bears since his freshman year. Hughes served as the Bears leading scorer and improved on his free throw shooting after already having a dangerous game from behind the arch. He also had the highest scoring game of the season of any player in the county when he scored 40 points on the road against Parkers Chapel.

McWhorter is a two-time All Conference performer and stepped up big time this season on the court. McWhorter was a double-double machine for the Bears and didn’t look like a football player playing basketball, but like a basketball player. McWhorter led the team in blocks and rebounds as well.

Honorable mention - C.F.’s Dashaire Ford Burton.

• 6th Man of the Year: C.F.’s Demarcus Morgan

Honorable Mention: Jaden Bates and Mason McClure

• Most Improved Player of the Year: Drake Wilson

Honorable Mention - Jaden Bates and Logan Hutchinson

• Newcomer of the Year: Tyree Holliman

• All County Boys bench team/Honorable Mention: Antwoin Edwards, Xaylon Falls, Robert Miller, Tyree Holliman, Christian Strahan, Chris Strahan, Javien Clemmer, Jayce Posey and Kendrick Juniel.
