CASA to hold softball tourney

A local organization is using sports to help raise funds for children in need.

The 13th Judicial District Court Appointed Special Advocates - North will hold its first annual Coed Slow Pitch Softball Tournament and Home Run Derby starting at 9 a.m. on March 30 at the Fordyce Civic Center.

Prizes will be awarded for tournament champions. Each team will be allowed to have 10-14 players with a 60/40 ratio. Entry fee is $150.

The double elimination tournament will have a 50 minute time limit for each game and run rules. Players as young as 16 can play as long as they have a signed waiver.

The Home Run Derby will be from 12-1 p.m. Players are encouraged to bring classic men and women balls. $10 for 10 pitches or 7 swings.

Concessions will be provided by Flaming Pig.

The mission of CASA is to see to the needs of area children who may have been abused or neglected. CASA agents are trained to work with the children in the juvenile court system.

Today, the National CASA Association represents over 950 CASA programs across the country in every state, including Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The group provides support for starting programs, technical assistance, training, and fundraising, media, and public awareness services. Proceeds go the 13th Judicial District CASA- North Program. For more info. or to register call the CASA office at 352-8846
