The Harmony Grove School District celebrated its student athletes at the H.G. gym on Monday. The event began with a meal catered by Flaming Pig.
H.G. closed its award ceremony with a special moment as the daughters of legendary Harmony Grove Coach Bill and Betty Manning went to the floor to present the Manning Award Winners to Gannon Bearden and Sidney Pigott. H.G. Booster Club’s Stacey Eads announced that Betty Manning would always attend to present the award, but missed last year because of bad health. This year, Bill and Betty’s two daughter attended in their parents’ memory.
Bearden is a third generation student athlete at Harmony Grove with his grandfather playing on the first H.G. football team. Bearden is also a member of the baseball team and a part of several student organizations.
Pigott had an accomplished career at H.G., starting for the girls basketball team as a freshman. She also excelled in track, softball and was a two-time State champion in golf.
H.G. Coach and Athletic Director Joe Beasley announced that the football team will have its intrasquad scrimmage at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Admittance is a box of HD detergent or a monetary donation to go towards purchasing items for the football team.
