A local business is holding an event to celebrate city employees.

The Corner Pocket Lounge, 457 Adams, is sponsoring an Appreciation Day for the Camden Mayor Julian Lott, Police Department and Fire Departments. The event will last from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, at the lounge with free barbecue including hamburgers, hot dogs and leg quarters.

The Corner Pocket Lounge is located at 457 Adams near the traffic light on Grinstead Avenue.

“It’s an opportunity for us to support our city employees that make sure we are treated fairly and able to stay in a city where we all feel safe,” Corner Pocket Lounge Owner Rodney Watson said. “We want to be seen as a business that gives back. We are all trying to make it just like everyone else. Our policemen and women work hard and do a great job of looking out for us.

“They make sure that they hold people accountable and keeping away the bad guys, but they also are approachable. And our fire department is working 24/7 a lot of times and putting their lives on the lines for us. Our mayor works hard. It’s not just a 9-to-5 (job) for him. All of them deserve recognition. Someone needed to do something, for them and that’s why we are holding this Appreciation Day. It’s a ‘thank you’ from us for everything that they are doing.”

“The reason we’re doing this is to bring awareness to those who may not know who the elected officials are in each area and to build better relationships between city and county officials and the people so respect can be established and love can outweigh fear,” Growth and Development founder Kevin Watson added.

The event is open to everyone to attend.
