Alvin Carter Jr., 77, of Stephens, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, at the Ouachita Medical Center in Camden.

Alvin was born on March 13, 1942, in Stephens, Arkansas, to the late Elisha Alvin Sr. and Alma (Cloud) Carter. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Stephens, and served his country in the United States Army stationed in Germany from 1960 to 1963. He spent his career in the defense industry in East Camden, was the manager of engineering and quality at Bae System Aerospace, and he loved fishing.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margie, Dorothy, Helen, and Alma Mae; brother, Lloyd Carter; and grandson, Jonathan Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Janette Carter of Stephens; sons, Sandy Carter and wife, Monica, of Mt. Holly, Arkansas, and Daniel Carter and wife, Cindy, of Stephens; daughter, Brenda Berry and husband, William, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandsons, Daniel Carter Jr. and wife ,Kayce, Jesse Carter and wife, Morgan, Noah Carter and wife, Raeann, and Ethan Carter; granddaughters, Mary Beth Shelton and husband, Derrek, Kayla Carter, and Savannah Berry; great-grandchildren, Elisha Ayden, Kaleb, Blayton, Derrek Jr., McKenna, Bentlee, Isabella, Serenity, Caden, and Kendell; and sister, Willie Belle Jinks of Stephens.

Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. in Magnolia is in charge of the arrangements.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Stephens with Jerry Arrington officiating. Burial will be at Stephens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his classmates from the Class of 1960.

Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
