The Harmony Grove Hornets tamed the Bismarck Lions on the road Friday night. Xaylon Falls scored 4 of the teams 9 touchdowns that resulted in a 68-14 conference opening victory.

Harmony Grove alumni and former assistant coach D.J. Keithly’s Lions took the opening kick-off and mounted a 17 play 60 yard drive that ate up nearly 8:00 of the first quarter. However, it ended when they were unable to convert on a 4th and goal from the 2 yard line.

The Hornets took control of the game by scoring 3 touchdowns in the final 4 minutes of the first period. The first came at 3:09 on a 15 yard run by Falls who also scored the two point conversion. After recovering a Bismarck fumble at the Lions 4 yard line, the next play saw Mecca Arnold score at 1:31 on a 4 yard run. He scored the 2 point play as well. The Hornets recovered another Lion’s fumble on the ensuing kick-off. Falls scored on a 15 yard run on the next play at the 1:17 mark. Arnold scored the 2 point play giving the Hornets a 24-0 lead.

At 8:44 in the second quarter Damion Daniels broke a 73 yard run for another Hornets touchdown. Falls converted the 2 point try giving the visitors a 32-0 lead. Falls also scored on a 39 yard run at 7:00 to go in the first half. He also added the extra 2 giving his team a 40-0 lead.

Bismarck put its first points on the board at 2:13 to go in the half when Brett Williams scored on a 6 yard run. The PAT was successful. This cut the lead to 40-7, but on the first play after receiving the kick Hornet Jeremie Edwards rumbled 61 yards for the touchdown. Arnold would add 2 more and Coach Ernie Horstcamp’s squad had a commanding 48-7 lead.

Harmony Grove scored once more with :32 to go in the half on a 21 yard run by Falls. Arnold added another 2 and the score set at 56-7 at halftime.

The second half opened withe the sportsmanship rule in effect which allows the clock to run continuously except for time-outs. Coach Horstcamp played many of his non-starters in the final 2 quarters.

The Lions scored again with about 10:25 to go in the game on a 12 yard run by Braden Shuffield. The PAT was good, cutting the lead to 56-14.

Harmony Grove scored 2 touchdowns in the waning moments of the game. Sophomore Tobias Hicks scored on a 4 yard run with about 4:35 to go in the game. The 2 point conversion attempt failed leaving the lead at 62-14.

Sophomore Titus Lockheart intercepted a pass from Lions QB James Kegley and returned it 30 yards for the Hornet’s final score with about a minute to play in the game. The 2 point attempt failed. This set the final score at Harmony Grove 68, Bismarck 14.

Coach Horstcamp praised his defense for coming away with 2 interceptions, and his whole team for their execution after getting back on the field following a bye week.

Harmony Grove improved their record to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference. Bismarck falls to 2-2 overall, 0-1 in conference.
