CAMDEN Dossie Mae Jones was born February 12, 1918 to William Nathaniel and Essie Russ Lockheart in Magnolia, Arkansas. Dossie was the third of 10 children; she had four sisters and five brothers. She attended school in Columbia County. Later she married Curtis Earl Jones; they moved to Camden and became the parents of six children. Dossie was a member of Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church where Rev. J.G. Russ was pastor. She served as a deaconess, a member of the missionary society, and in the church kitchen.
“Mrs. Jones” was creative --- an excellent seamstress known for her generous hospitality and delicious cooking. She will be remembered as a wise, witty, loving, loyal, caring, sweet, strong, resilient, graceful, kind, phenomenal woman.
Dossie lived an abundant life of 102 years. Her husband Curtis preceded her to heaven in 1982, along with their sons, Algeray (2006), Marvin (2013), and four grandchildren. Her brothers Nathaniel, Amos, Ulysses, and Leodis Lockheart along with sisters Flossie Wilbourn, Farrest Smith, Daisy Graham, and Norvell Christopher also preceded her.
Dossie was a dedicated mother to Dorothy Nell Smith, Kansas City, MO, Larry Jones and Pastor Bargany Jones (Jodi) Camden, AR, and ConSandra Jones, Houston, TX, as well as Rubbie Jones, Gulfport, MS and Janice Jones, Kansas City, MO. She has 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren. Her brother Leroy Lockheart of Magnolia, AR and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends enjoy many special memories.
The visitation is Thursday, April 9th, 4pm-6pm at Williams Funeral Home, 504 Adams Ave. in Camden. Her burial will be Friday, April 10th at noon in Macedonia Cemetery near Magnolia, Arkansas.
