— Colossians 3:15

by Kiesha Shelton

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts since as members of one body you were called to peace; and be thankful.

The body of Christ is going through some changes right now but we are still called to peace and gratefulness. We are all the body of Christ and members in particular, and that alone is enough reason to be thankful. The body must be in sync to be healthy both physically and spiritually. Gratefulness is defined as the quality of being thankful, or readiness to show appreciation for and return kindness. Gratefulness can be shown externally but it is best benefited from when it is achieved internally. Gratefulness is a heart issue. We can say we are thankful but inwardly be wishing for things to be different or things to be better. Like robots we routinely offer thanks at mealtime but more often than not, it’s just a habit and ritual we’ve developed instead of a real expression of heartfelt thanks. My prayer is that thankfulness would wash over me and my heart. The bible tells us the best way to be washed is by the Word of God. Ephesians 5:26

My prayer today is Lord please let my internal condition match my external acts of thanksgiving. The book of Ephesians, chapter 6 tells us to not only obey and do things to win favor when the eyes of others are on us but because we are servants of God we do the will of God from our heart.
