— This weeks From the Archives features a photo circa 1929 of the first African American built brick home in Camden. The home of Josh Smith still stands today. Smith is listed in the 1930 Federal Census as a brick mason who was 54 years of age. Later censuses show that his son Otis also became a brick mason. The home was valued at $1,000 according to the census and the family owned a radio.
