Bearden robbery suspect receives $1M bond

Kobe Juwan Miller — the suspect accused of robbing a Dollar General in Bearden — had his first appearance in court today in front of Judge Hamilton Singleton.

Miller, 21 of Columbia, Missouri, received a $1 million bond, which Judge Hamilton noted was based “solely on the severity of the crime.”

Miller is charged with two counts of intent to commit capital murder and theft of property over $1,000. He faces up 40 years or life on both intent to commit capital murder charges and an additional six years on the theft charge.

Two clerks were hospitalized as a result of the robbery, with one suffering a gunshot wound to the head.

Miller later turned himself in to the Calhoun County Sheriff Department around 11 a.m. Monday.

According to the Bearden Police Department, the Ouachita Sheriff’s Department received a 911 phone call from the Dollar General at 562 W. Jordan Ave. in Bearden reporting an armed robbery.

The Ouachita County Sheriff’s Department, Bearden Police Department, East Camden Police Department and Ouachita County Emergency Medical Services responded. Both clerks were transported to the Ouachita County Medical Center for treatment. One clerk received a gunshot wound to the head and was later transported by helicopter to UAMS. The second clerk was treated for injuries from a physical altercation that took place with the suspect.

Miller was identified as a suspect and fled from law enforcement on foot shortly after the incident occurred. A search of Miller’s grandmothers nearby apartment was conducted. The suspected firearm used in the robbery, clothing and money were recovered from the apartment. The suspect’s shoes and wallet were also recovered near the apartment.

Bearden Police Chief Nathan Greeley said the clerk was alert and answering questions about the robbery and that physicians are weighing surgery to remove the .22 caliber bullet.

Miller is currently housed in Ouachita County Detention Center where he is charged with commercial burglary and intent to commit capital murder.
