The Camden Fairview Cardinals put on a good showing during the 4A State Conference meet held in Nashville earlier this week with a junior participant capturing first place.

Camden Fairview junior Mark Welch placed first in the 4A Shot Put competition with a throw of 54-7. Welch had several second place finishes throughout the year but was finally able to get over the hump.

The Cardinal 4x200 Relay team of Jacob Utsey, Kalieck Helms, Zamarian Whaley and Justin Scott finished as runner ups with a time of 1:34:63, just shy of Shiloh Christians’ 1:34:51.

Utsey added a fourth place finish in the 400 (53.17) and the 4x100 team of Brandon Copeland, Helms, Whaley and Scott finished fourth (45.78).

Lady Cardinal Tamia Dandridge finished 6th in the Long Jump competition despite it only being her second time to compete this season.

The Cardinals finished 7th out of 32 teams and was second from the conference only behind Magnolia who finished 3rd overall.
