The 8th Annual Searcy Harrell Memorial Golf Classic, presented by the Camden Kiwanis Club at the Camden Country Club, is set for June 5.

All proceeds go toward the local scholarships and Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The first flight will began at 9 a.m., then the players will be treated to a hamburger lunch at noon with the second flight starting at 1:30 p.m.

The entry fee for the tourney is $400 per team which will include 18 holes of golf, a cart and a lunch. Sponsorships are still available.

The tournament is one of the group’s biggest fund-raisers and is held in honor of one of its late members, Mr. Searcy W. Harrell Jr.

Harrell was active in the community of Camden and served as president of many organizations and businesses including First Bank, the Boys and Girls Club of Camden - now known as the Ouachita County Recreational Center — Kiwanis Club and the Camden Country Club. He also served as a member of the Ouachita Partnership for Economic Development from 2007-2011.

Harrell was a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight, an organization active in arranging free air transportation in response to health care and other compelling human needs.

The environment of the tournament has historically been known to be fun, friendly and promote a good cause - which are a just a few of the things Harrell cared about.

The format of the event will be a 4-man scramble with cash prizes given to the first place team. Other prizes will be awarded to participating teams with various other contest such as Double or Nothing, Hit-The-Green, Closest to the Line and the opportunity to win a brand new Ford vehicle with a Hole-in-One.

Entry forms can be picked up at the Camden Country Club’s pro shop, and can be mailed back with payment to Camden Kiwanis Club, PO Box 371, Camden, AR, 71711. For more information call 866-2769.
