A Bearden man has pleaded guilty to fourth-degree sexual assault and was sentenced this week to 10 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

Charles Hopkins, 38, was originally charged with rape and sexual indecency with a minor after his July 5, 2019 arrest.

According to police affidavits, on July 4, 2019, Ouachita County Deputies made contact with three witnesses who said Hopkins sexually assaulted a minor female relative at his residence. The victim had been staying with Hopkins and his then-wife for the summer.

According to the witnesses, Hopkins sat in a chair with the victim and inappropriately touched her and she asked him to stop. The victim indicated she did not want the witnesses to say anything because she was scared, according to police records.

The witnesses said Hopkins then took the victim to a gravel road, at which point one of the witnesses called 911.

The witnesses contacted Hopkins's then-wife and she took the child, who said that Hopkins had assaulted her in the past. According to police records, the victim described one incident in Rogers, Arkansas when Hopkins masturbated in front of her.

Hopkins is housed in Ouachita County Detention Center and awaiting sentencing in the Rogers incident.
