Lions Club awards banquet scheduled for next week

Special to the Camden News

Camden Noon Lions Club Distinguished Service Awards Banquet will take place on Tuesday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Thrive Church, the former Charles O. Ross Center. The banquet is a time to honor four individuals from the community for their volunteerism.

Last year's winners were Patric Flannigan for the James A Branyan Outstanding Young Man of the Year; Sherri Steelman for the John Stinson Outstanding Woman of the Year; Hahn Nguyen for the Vida H. Lampkin Young Woman of the Year; and Paul Lindsey, for the W.E. Hussman Camden Man of the Year

The Keynote Speaker for this year will be Steve "Sully" Sullivan, three-time consecutive winner of Arkansas Sports Caster of the Year. Sullivan can be seen on KATV.

According to KATV, Sullivan began working in television broadcast when Lou Holtz was coaching the Arkansas Razorbacks, NFL great Keith Jackson was a tight end at Little Rock Parkview and Auburn Head Coach Gus Malzaahn was playing with David Little at Fort Smith Christian High School.

"No one enjoys Friday night football more then Sully. KATV's Friday Night Touchdowns has won multiple awards. On Saturdays, if he's not calling games for the UCA Bears, you can usually find Sully covering a youth game. Sully's Little Heroes has become one of the station's most popular feature," the company says.

The banquet will be catered by Catherine's Bistro. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased at Shopper's Guide, Catherine's Bistro or from Camden Noon Lions Club members.
