New York has a giant problem on offense

Not long ago, the Cleveland Browns were the laughing stock of the NFL. These days, the Browns have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL, and they are legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

After the 30-29 loss on the road to the Washington Football Team, there is a possibility that the New York Giants are the new laughing stock in the NFL.

The Giants were leading 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, but Washington's defense started to get more aggressive at crashing into the backfield consistently. This was a game where the Giants needed their starting quarterback Daniels Jones to start playing at a top-half of the league quarterback.

Throughout the game, Jones was able to make consistently great throws and drive the ball down the field. Washington's defense, however, dominated the Giants's inefficient offensive line. Washington accounted for eight tackles for loss, four sacks and seven quarterback hits as they made big plays in the backfield.

While Washington's solid edge rushers in Montez Sweat and Chase Young consistently rushed the edge, it was defensive tackle Jonathan Allen that tormented new Giants center Billy Price.

The offensive line continued to show their inability to create a push at the line of scrimmage as their star running back in Saquon Barkley only rushed for 57 yards on 13 carries. The Giants's leading rusher of the game was Jones on a couple of surprising scrambles.

Jones threw for 249 yards and a touchdown on 22 completions (out of 32 passing attempts). Their first-round rookie receiver Kadarius Toney only played in 17 snaps on Thursday night and has caught only two receptions for -2 yards. Kenny Golladay, the receiver the Giants signed for $72 million for four-years in the off-season, only caught three receptions for 38 yards on eight targets.

The Giants's defense attempted to contain Washington's offense, which was playing their backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke. In the end, Heinicke made the big plays possible by passing for 336 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on 34 completions (out of 46 passing attempts).

Overall, this game versus Washington highlights the terrible preparations by head coach Joe Judge and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett towards the offensive side of the ball. While the concern for Jones as a franchise quarterback has decreased, the concerns for offensive efficiency have only progressed.

It is still early in the season, but there is plenty to worry about in New York.
