Fire Department announces death of Captain Earl Banks

The Camden Fire Department announced the death of long time member Captain Earl Banks.

The post on the CFD Facebook page stated,"With sadness, we announce the death of retired Captain Earl Banks, who died Monday, November 14, 2022, age 78.

"Captain Banks served the citizens of Camden as a firefighter for 24 years, after being hired as the first Black firefighter for the city of Camden on October 21, 1973. He retired on November 1, 1997. Captain Banks also served in the U.S. Army from September 1965 until July 1967, receiving an honorable discharge after serving one tour in the Vietnam War.

"Visitation will be Monday, November 21, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at R.L. Reed Funeral Home in Magnolia. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, at St. James A.M.E. Church in Stephens, followed by interment at Seminary Cemetery in Stephens."
