Reverend James Scott is the Black History Celebration Committee's nominee for the Betty J. Lewis Unsung Hero recognition for October 2022.
James Cornell Scott serves as Pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Harmony Grove, Arkansas. He was nominated for the BJL Unsung Hero recognition for his accomplishments listed below.
• Graduated from Harmony Grove High School in May 1985.
• Earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Central Arkansas in May 1990.
• Earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Henderson State University in December 2005.
• Served 20 years in the US Army Reserves and retired in December 2007.
• Graduate of Arkansas Governmental Manager Program.
• Certified Program Manager Graduate of UALR.
• Employed with the Arkansas Department of Human Services as Division of County Operations Area IV Director
• Served as Pastor of the Shady Grove Baptist Church for the past 23 years.
• Served as Past Dean of the Greater Bradley District Association's Congress of Christian Education.
• Father of 3 children and 10 grandchildren.
• Married to Amanda Walston-Scott
Betty J. Lewis was an employee of SAU Tech who lost her fight against cancer. Her family and co-workers started a minority scholarship in her honor and raise funds for the scholarship each year through the SAU Tech Black History Celebration and the Betty J. Lewis 5K. The recognition of local Black Leaders is an activity of the Black History Celebration Committee to bring awareness to the accomplishments of Black Leaders in Camden and the surrounding area
