Ouachita County man arrested for assaulting deputies

A Ouachita County man has been charged with two counts of battery and one count of resisiting arrest after allegedly assaulting two sheriff's deputies.

William Mantooth, 72, was released on a $5,000 bond on July 17 by Judge David Graham.

According to an Ouachita County Sheriff's report, on July 16, officers were dispatched to Ouachita 77 for a battery report.

Deputies made contact with a woman who said her relatives William Mantooth and his son had come to her home in Bismark to make her come back to Camden.

The report states Mantooth said to officers, "We had to make her come with us and she fought us the whole time."

Mantooth was very uncooperative and refused to allow the responding deputy to speak, police allege.

The responding deputy attempted to detain Mantooth and the report states that Mantooth fought back when the deputy tried to place his hand behind his back. He then began to curse and pull away from the deputy, according to the report.

Mantooth struck the deputy with a closed fist or opened hand, police allege. A second deputy arrived on the scene and was also struck with a closed fist, according to the report.

After a struggle, Mantooth was forced to the ground and arrested.
