High speed chase leads to arrest

A Chidester man is facing multiple charges after an alleged domestic assault lead to a high speed chase with Camden officers over the weekend.

Jarred Lockhart, 21, is charged with aggravated assault, fleeing, reckless driving, speeding, driving on a suspended license, failure to yield to emergency vehicles and four counts of running a stop sign.

According to a CPD report, on Sept. 24 around 10:15 a.m., officers were responding to an ongoing domestic issue between Lockhart and his girlfriend.

Upon arrival, the responding officer observed a red Ford Eagle traveling along Monroe Street which matched the description of Lockhart's vehicle, the report says.

The report states the officer tried to initiate a traffic stop, but Lockhart continued on Monroe Street before turing onto Wood Street and eventually Adams Avenue, where he allegedly ran several stop signs on the way to Harrison Street before finally coming to a stop at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Clifton Street.

The officer's vehicle reached speeds of 75 miles per hour during the chase, with the suspect's vehicle "traveling much faster," according to the police report.

The officer reported that he drew his service weapon and took Lockhart into custody without furter incident.

As of Monday, Lockhard was being held in the Ouachita County Detention Center awaiting a first appearance hearing.
